    Sailing Instructions here.

The Race to Cabo series returns to Clear Lake on the Wednesdays that CLRA takes a break (J/22s only). A change for this year is that we won't be finishing right at Cabo.  Instead we will finish back at the committee boat. This will hopefully avoid a pileup in the corner, and expedite the start of the next race.

After racing head over to Cabo Bar and Grill for $5 burgers, $3 you-call-its, random prizes, socializing, and bar karate (race discussions).

From Allie Cribbs, skippering Helms A Lee:

Thanks to the crew of Sean Davis, Danielle Van Strien, and Marco Ciprian for putting up with and coaching a new driver this weekend at the Elissa. Saturday started out with a few curveballs, and the brute realization that my expectations were a little higher than reality. As the wind built on Saturday we found ourselves in analysis mode as to why we were having a hard time keeping the boat flat with a competitive crew weight. After the advice from the parking lot crew Saturday afternoon, we went up in rig tension and were able to get off some fun races on Sunday. While, we were not able to keep up with the lightning speed of the Bethancourts/Terry Flynn, we did have an opportunity to duke it out with some match racing of our own with Kevin Orff and crew (Eric Simonson, Aaron Brittain). Results here.

The key areas where I needed the most coaching included: driving with waves downwind, starting, and mark roundings. All in all, I learned a ton and am grateful to the crew for making it a fun/insightful weekend.

And a special thanks to Anne Lee for the use of her boat!

    -- Allie

The CLRA WNR kicked off on Wednesday with a downwind start and puffy conditions. A few new faces (Karen, Natalie, David), missing some faces (Vincent, Walter, Anne, Doug, Mitch, Eric and more), but still twelve J/22s on the line. In the coming weeks we should have even more.

Apparently some WNR cobwebs still need to be dusted. Like remembering what that pesky yellow flag with red stripes means, and which mark you are to round even after rounding it twice before. I was unfortunately unable to get the boat out, but watched from the crowded dock at Villa Capri. Quite a sight.  Results here.

Two J/22s had the RaceQs tracking turned on, but it is deceptive. "Banner" is actually the Bethancourts, and the "Payaso" track took the end-around via Hwy 146 and NASA Road 1. Try to remember to turn on your RaceQ tracking next time. It's very interesting to watch the replays.

Owners: Encourage your crew to sign up on this website. Eventually we will have a good database of J/22 crew contacts, and lack of crew will no longer be an excuse to sit it out.
Crew:  Please sign up on this website. It's free.

Stay tuned for upcoming news on our Cabo races. The first one is Wednesday May 3.

The 1st J22 Circuit Regatta of the 2017 sailing season was hosted by Shreveport Yacht Club. We were greeted by members who welcomed us and showed us around the club.  We had ten J22’s and racing proved to be fun and challenging for all. Due to the severe weather forecasted for Sunday, we only raced on Saturday but had all kinds of wind conditions to test sailing skills. Two out of the ten boats racing were Fleet 6 members and both placed in the regatta. Out of the four races, Vincent Ruder and crew took 3 bullets for 1st place and Stuart Lindow and crew took 2nd.

Fleet 6 member Terry Flynn, and crew Brett Allred and Bryan Calk, took 5th Place out of 32 boats in the 2017 J22 Midwinter Championship in New Orleans! The event was scheduled for three days, however, race committee struggled to get off 3 races in light and fluky wind on Sunday. There was no racing on Friday or Saturday due to high winds and storms. Other Fleet 6 J22's that participated were Anne Lee, Dov Kivlovitz and Kevin Orff/Eric Simonson.

Pretty rough start at the 2017 J22 Midwinter Championship in New Orleans. We are glad Mark Foster and crew are ok. This happened before any racing started and they ended up abandoning races for the day. Rumored that gusts were up to 40 mph.

It was a beautiful weekend for racing!  Out of fourteen J22's, Terry Flynn easily walked away with 1st place taking four bullets out of six races.  There was a tie for 2nd place with Tom Meeh getting the tie breaker and Doug Weakly landing in 3rd place.  Mark Foster took 4th place.  Thanks to all who participated!

If you are racing this weekend in the GBCA Performance Cup Regatta, turn on your RaceQs! They will have the replay running during the party. It is always fun to watch, but you have to have people send in their data. Good luck to all sixteen J22's!
