    Report from Karen Glass:

I’d like to give a shout out to J/22 Fleet 6.  It was just a little over two years ago that I first arrived into Seabrook with my J/22.  At that time I had not skippered a boat in a regatta and had limited racing experience.  From the moment I arrived into Seabrook, I received and continue to receive an amazing amount of support, guidance and coaching. So, it was no surprise to see that same enthusiasm at the J/22 Owner’s Meeting this past weekend.

First, a big thank you to Chris Morlan for hosting the meeting, to Stuart Lindow for organizing and running the meeting and to Walter Caldwell for preparing and cooking our delicious meal. Stuart began the meeting by identifying a new J/22 owner, Jonathan Bowman, Welcome!  As we went through the meeting’s agenda and listened to the ideas that were presented it was great to witness the camaraderie among the group. Some of the meeting's highlights included our website, ideas to grow the fleet, the regattas and circuit races that the fleet can participate in this year (it looks like we may have 4-5 boats going to the national Mid Winters in Fort Walton, FL), hopes for hosting another National J/22 regatta and of course, the presentation of illustrious participation awards (Congratulations to Anne Lee, Kevin Orff and Eric Simonson for the highest number of attended regattas).  Throughout the meeting I was reminded of how knowledgeable and talented a group we have here in the Galveston Bay area.  It is obvious that there is a lot of work that happens behind the scenes to keep our fleet healthy and strong.

A big thank you to Stuart Lindow who is Fleet Captain and who does more than any of us realize, Walter Caldwell our secretary and who, in addition, runs our web site and much more, Terry Flynn our faithful boat measurer and Janet Ruder who maintains our Facebook page.

Finally, Thank you too everyone in our fleet who takes time to help, assist and makes it a pleasure to be a part of the, “Most Active Fleet on Galveston Bay,” the J/22 Fleet 6.

Be sure to check out the meeting’s minutes on the J/22 Fleet 6 website where you can get the complete details of the meeting.

From J/22 HOOD champions Anne Lee & Sean Davis:

Seven J/22s participated in the recent HOOD Regatta hosted by HYC. Weather conditions varied from no wind, wind, rain & storm. Saturday’s racing started with a very light shifty Southeast wind building to approximately 6 -9 kts. from the South. The fleet was very competitive with boats changing positions at almost every mark rounding, resulting with very close finishes. The day ended with Helms a Lee and Dov’s ‘No Name’ tied for first place.

Sunday started with almost no wind. A light breeze finally filled from the West and the Race Committee was able to get one race off. Again the wind was very light, shifty and was non-existent the down-wind end of the race. Helms a Lee struck lucky with an occasional puff and floated into first place, with ‘No Name’ in second and Tom Meeh placing third overall in the Bethancourt’s ‘Chicken Dinner’.

Thanks to the Race Committee for doing a good job and to HYC for the after race food and entertainment.

    Results here.

If everything works perfectly, the test is not a success. With that in mind our live stream test of this week's Cabo race was a success! Due to the laptop in use we were not able to stream to both YouTube and Facebook at the same time. We did stream to FB, and as a shakedown, experienced some problems, mainly with sound issues. A recording of the FB feed is here.

It was a fun time, with music piped onto the lake and colorful commentary by Janet Ruder and By Baldridge. One of the many By-isms:

"The thing about this race is it's like playing roulette - you have to roll the dice..."

Maybe By is related to Yogi Berra.

This Saturday's GBCA rum race is sponsored by JBoats Southwest.  Party catered by Marios, and special giveaways from JBoats. And Fleet 6 will award a bottle of rum to the first J/22 to finish (maybe more if we have enough participation).  So put on your old JFest t-shirt and we'll see you Saturday!
